My name is Angie Beck and I have been tutoring students using the Barton Reading & Spelling System for over 12 years. I was fortunate to have been trained by one of Susan Barton's earliest Master Certified tutors, Pamela Taylor. I have over seven years of experience with exclusively online tutoring, having worked online with students in the US and abroad. I have extensive experience working both in person and online with kids who not only have dyslexia but also ADHD, dysgraphia, ASD (including but not limited to Asperger's Syndrome), diagnosed anxiety, and more.

I didn't set out to be a dyslexia specialist. I have a Master's degree in Industrial Psychology and expected to work in Human Resources. However, life happened and along the way my husband and I had three amazing kids. We opted to homeschool them and so my foray into the world of education began.

As they grew older, I started looking for ways to bring income to our family while staying home with our kids. I worked at the YMCA and did in-home childcare for many years. As my own kids grew, I wanted something different. I have always loved reading and can't seem to get enough books when we visit the library. My college friend, Pam Taylor, heard I was looking for a new career path and asked me to join her in her clinic. I researched dyslexia and discovered that I have a passion around helping kids succeed. After eight years working with Pam and LexiAbility, my husband and I found ourselves empty-nesters. I was ready to do something a little different and on my own and left LexiAbility to open my private practice.

I have experienced, first-hand, the frustration that super smart, creative kids feel when they are not being taught in the manner that works best with their learning style. I've celebrated successes with the same kids as they discover that they are not the problem - that their learning style is different and that they CAN succeed when given the appropriate tools.
