Has Your District Said:

"Your child is too smart, they just need to focus."

"Your child is making good grades."

"Your child only struggles with spelling."

"Your child is fine." (But you know they can’t read or spell!)

"We can’t do anything unless the child is 2 grade levels behind."

"Let’s wait and see how they do this year."

How I Can Help

As a dyslexia advocate, I help bridge the gap between students, parents, teachers, school specialists and school administrators, specializing in speaking “both languages” - of dyslexia and academia.  Navigating the educational needs of students with dyslexia can be complex. By understanding dyslexia’s intricacies and the dynamics of the educational system, I can offer expert guidance and support to ensure that your student receives the individualized attention and resources necessary so their needs are appropriately addressed and they are positioned to achieve the best educational outcome.

I am available both in person or online in the Kansas City area (Kansas and Missouri), or online if you are located outside of metro Kansas City.

What a Dyslexia Advocate Is Not

A Dyslexia Advocate is NOT an attorney and I do not practice law.  As an advocate, I can advise you through the IEP/504 process, mediation, and filing of complaints until the filing of Due Process.  An attorney is strongly recommended for Due Process.

Why am I a Dyslexia Advocate?

I have been a Dyslexia Specialist for over 12 years. During this time I have talked with countless parents who struggle to get FAPE (Fair, Appropriate Public Education) for their child, or who don't know what their child's rights are under federal and state law and have no idea where to even begin. I have heard stories of how the school refused to use the word "dyslexia" because if they did then they would have to do something about it. I have worked with students who struggle because the school said "They will catch up. Let's wait and see," or worse, "They just need to focus and try harder." I felt a strong calling to become certified as a Dyslexia Advocate, and in December 2024 I completed the Dyslexia Training Institute's "Dyslexia Advocate Certification" course. I learned much through the process and am excited to be able to assist parents through the IEP/504 (ISP, if in private school) process.
